Waynestock 2015 Coming Soon!

Jan 27, 2015 03:39PM, Published by Diana Bogan, Categories: Arts+Entertainment News Briefs, Music

The 2015 festival will be held Thursday-Sunday, Jan. 29-31, at the Relix Variety Theater, 1208 N. Central St. Among the performances will be: A reunion by Run, Jump and Throw Like a Girl, featuring Scott Miller and Jeff Bills (of the legendary V-Roys) and Todd Steed (of Smokin’ Dave and the Premo Dopes and Todd Steed and the Suns of Phere); Celtic rock favorites Cutthroat Shamrock; Bobby Bare Jr.’s Young Criminalist Starvation League; jazz/R&B group Blue Print; the island party music of Marina Orchestra; and a reunion of metal group Psychotic Behavior collaborating with local rock legend and poet Rus Harper (of The Melungeons and Teenage Love). Harper will read poetry and lyrics by the late Psychotic Behavior singer Andrew Bledsoe.

Other acts include Subtle Clutch, Brandon Fulson and the Realbillys, Matt Woods, Plunderphonics, Madre, Big Bad Oven, Bark and Hudson K and the event will conclude with a Tribute to Neil Young that will include many of the participating Waynestock artists and surprise guests.

The beneficiary for this year's Waynestock will be WUTK The Rock, the student-run University of Tennessee radio station that's been a fixture of the East Tennessee music scene for decades. The nonprofit station does much for many, but it's a self-sustaining enterprise that will greatly benefit from the Waynestock performers who often find a radio outlet on WUTK that they don't elsewhere.

The event will include a raffle with a variety of prizes, including music festival passes, music instruments, rare music memorabilia and original artwork. Food will be available for purchase from Sweet P’s Barbecue and Soul House and beer and drinks will be available.

Waynestock was begun in 2011 by members of the music community to support longtime News Sentinel music writer Wayne Bledsoe and his family after the sudden death of his son Andrew. The event was revived the following year to support the family of Knoxville music scene great Phil Pollard after his death. After community reaction to the good vibes and goodwill of the event organizers decided to make it a yearly event. In 2013, Waynestock raised funds for the Community School of the Arts, a non-profit after-school arts program. The 2014 Waynestock raised funds for the E.M. Jellinek Center, a non-profit organization that provides housing and treatment for chemically dependent men.

Admission is $5 per night at the door.
